This remarkable chawan is unlike any we?ve ever seen. It is fired with actual leaves and washi (Japanese handmade paper) set into the porcelain. The result is a playful, rustic tea bowl with a wealth of colors and textures. A variety of washi types are scattered over the surface of the chawan. The undulating lip is glazed with a near-black line. The interior is left relatively simple on the side that?s to be sipped from. On the other side, it bears two fields of color (one in forest green and one in a deep, muted yellow) and two calligraphic icons of a flower and a delicate weave pattern. Height: about 3? Diameter at lip: 4.75?
